Camp ? 2018 Pendant

Camp Question Mark Pendants are given to all of the campers who contribute to creating Camp Questionmark. Those in turn can be gifted to friends on or off the playa. Every year since 2010, Camp Questionmark has created a unique pendant, cast in metal and produced in limited batches of 1,200. These pendants are highly sought-after, with up to 1,000 being distributed during the burn. This year, my design was featured on the reverse of the pendant, opposite My design reflects this year's theme, "I, Robot" by featuring motifs of circuit boards, algorithmically generated patterns, natural textures, and chemical structures. Does consciousness not emerge out of the same mathematical principles, the same building blocks that comprise computer systems )?(

I initially started with the basic outline of the Camp Questionmark logo designed by FreeRolando, reproduced as a vector graphic in Adobe Illustrator. I shattered the piece into a complex interweaving of positive and negative space, organic and algorithmic textures, prevailing, sweeping arcs and rigid geometry. Motifs pictured include tesselating geometric tunnels, molecular structures, generative reaction diffusion simulations, topographical contours, wood grain, playa cracks, hexagon lattice, and printed circuit boards.

Photoshop and Blender were used to extrude this shape and apply depth relief to the ends. Meshes were then adjusted to optimize for production resolution constraints.
